  •  Members of the Astrophysicists Division Identify the Origin of a Mysterious Signature from a Distant Neutron Star Whose Radiation Once Disturbed the Earth's Atmosphere
    • In an international collaboration led by CAIS astrophysicists, the team identified the origin of a puzzling spectral feature from an extraordinary type of neutron stars.
    • The Finding Gives the Neutron Star an ultra-high Magnetic Field of about 1015 G.
    • This Neutron Star Emitted a Powerful Gamma-ray Flash in 1998 that ionized the Earth's Atmosphere from ~ 50,000 Light Years away: Read More
    • These X-ray and Gamma-ray stars are currently being utilized in the next generation Global Positioning System (GPS) that can be used aboard spacecrafts and satellites. Read more in the following two articles:

  •  CAIS Members to Tem up with Stanford SLAC Scientists
    • Two CAIS members will soon be heading to the prestigious Stanford University accelerator facility SLAC in order to collaborate with SLAC scientists on Synchrotron and Accelerator design. This partnership was made possible by a generous grant from the International Atomic Energy Agency. CAIS extends a warm thanks to IAEA.

  •  Ask a Scientist: Challenging Questions Made Simple
    • What is the Universe Expanding Into? (Credit: Astronomy Cast)
      • Come on, admit it, you’ve had this question. If the Universe is expanding from the Big Bang, what is it expanding into? What’s outside the Universe? Read & Listen to the Answer.
